I cannot come down
Dear Louisiana Leaders,
Grace and Peace to each of you. I want to begin by saying thank you for your faithfulness. The work you carry week after week matters more than you often see in the moment. Lives are being changed, families strengthened, and communities impacted because you continue to pray up, show up, lead with integrity, and serve sacrificially.
Recently, I was reflecting on : “I am doing a great work and cannot come down.” Those are words that should definitely apply to all of us as leaders. In our callings filled with constant demands, distractions, and pressures, staying focused on the great work God has entrusted to us is essential.
I’ve attached a short leadership lesson built around a simple but powerful framework called FOCUS — a practical tool for turning vision into daily execution and guarding our momentum as leaders. It’s designed to encourage you personally and to be something you could possibly share with your teams if you’d like.
My Prayer is that it will help all of us:
Move Forward Intentionally,
Clarify Daily Objectives,
Protect Our Concentration,
Act With Urgency,
and Remove Distractions that Compete with our Calling.
Strong leaders don’t drift into great outcomes — they focus their way there.

FOCUS: the leadership lesson
“I am doing a great work and cannot come down.” Nehemiah 6:3
Great Leaders Stay Focused ... And Focused Leaders Do Great Things!
FOCUS: Where your Focus Goes, your Future Grows.
- FOCUS is the discipline of turning vision into execution, separating Drifters from Builders
- FOCUS is how vision becomes reality.
F — Forward
Attention and action directed toward what moves vision and goals ahead. Direct attention and action toward what actually advances our goals and vision. (Busy is not progress. - Busyness feels productive but often hides procrastination.)
Forward means asking every day:
- Does this move my life, family, career, and faith ahead — or just keep me busy?”
- Am I actually moving forward... or just staying active?
- What did I do yesterday that actually moved my life goals forward?
O — Objectives
Clear, definable goals for the day — not vague intentions. Define clear, measurable outcomes for the day. (If it’s not defined, it won’t be done.)
- Strong people don’t wake up hoping the day goes well. They wake up deciding what must be accomplished.
- Clear targets create clear progress.
C — Concentration
Thinking and energy anchored to priorities. Don’t drift. Protect mental energy for priorities. Eliminate drift, distraction, and multitasking. (Depth beats scattered effort.)
- Distraction is the enemy of greatness. - Phones. Social media. Side conversations. Multitasking.
- You can’t build a strong life with scattered attention.
- People who win learn to lock in.
- Drift always costs more than discipline.
Urgency, sacrifice, and this week
U — Urgency
Act with purpose now — not “someday.” Delay steals momentum. Execute now with purpose. Momentum favors action. (Delay is the silent killer of success.)
- Successful people Act // Average People delay.
- Most dreams die from “someday.”
- Urgency doesn’t mean stress — it means priority.
S — Sacrifice
Intentionally deny, delay, dump, or defeat whatever competes with your purpose. Intentionally remove what competes with progress (habits, meetings, people, or comforts). (Every win costs something.)
- Every strong life costs something. If nothing is sacrificed, nothing significant is built. Time. Comfort. Bad habits. Wrong relationships. Late nights. Early mornings. Saying no.
- We can’t have progress without pruning.
- Most Everything in our life is a result of intentionality: Intentional effort or neglect
- Ask: What must I cut to grow?
FOCUS alleviates Frustration... “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul.”
Success will always belong to leaders who protect priorities and pay the price. Leaders don’t usually fail because of a lack of talent. We fail from lack of direction and consistency. Most lives don’t fall apart — they slowly drift apart.... from losing Focus
FOCUS is what turns good intentions into real results. People who drift end up where life pushes them. People who focus end up where they decide.
This week:
- ✔ Move something forward
- ✔ Set daily objectives
- ✔ Eliminate distractions
- ✔ Act with urgency
- ✔ Sacrifice what holds you back
